Caramel Apple Laffy Taffy

Place purchased: Target

Price: $2.69

Number of reviewers: 4

Appearance - 4.5

Before I opened one of the Laffy Taffys, I was expecting the taffy to be green, caramel colored, or maybe a striped combination of the two. The wrapper is caramel and green colored, so why would one think it would be anything else? Then I opened the Laffy Taffy, and, nope, not green or caramel colored. Instead, it is an unattractive reddish brown color. Why Nestle chose this color out of all the possible options is beyond me.

C: Poor color choice, should be green or caramel color.
E: Weird reddish-brown.
S: Looks like poop.

Flavor and Taste - 5.5

The Caramel Apple Laffy Taffys smell somewhat like caramel apple candy, yet they just taste like sour apple. Any caramel flavor that might be in there is masked by the intense sour apple flavor.

C: Sour apple flavor, no caramel detectable.
E: Apple flavor is distinct, but caramel flavor is overshadowed. Kind of plasticy.
S: Mostly just sour apple with an off flavor.

Texture - 7.0

The Laffy Taffy is chewy and sticky, like normal taffy. Some of the taffies also adhered to the interior of their wrappers; I think there should be a better way to package these.

C: Good chewy texture. Doesn't stick to teeth very much.
E: Like Laffy Taffy. Very chewy/sticky.

Aftertaste - 6.0

The aftertaste is sweet and sour, with some lingering apple flavor.

C: Apple.
E: Sweet. Apple flavor.
S: Sour, sweet.

Overall - 5.5

The Caramel Apple Laffy Taffys are just a sour apple Laffy Taffys with an ugly brown color. Nothing special here.

C: Misses the mark.
E: It's on par for Laffy Taffy.
S: Not impressed.

Aero Strawberry

Nestle's Aero Strawberry was released along with Aero Caramel in Canada in early 2014.

Place purchased: Target in Canada

Number of reviewers: 4

Appearance - 7.3

The Aero Strawberry bar consists of very light pink colored, strawberry flavored aerated white chocolate coated in milk chocolate. The bar is segmented into dome shaped pieces.

E: Cute.
E2: I like the curve of the top.

Flavor and Taste - 5.0

The predominant flavor of the Aero Strawberry bar is sour dairy, with a mild artificial strawberry flavor that emerges while chewing. The chocolate bar is also incredibly sweet.

E: Like strawberry fluoride.
E2: Very sour, off-dairy, don't taste any strawberry.
J: Creamy strawberry flavor. Chocolate flavor is almost non-existent. Super sweet.

Texture - 6.0

The aerated chocolate collapses when chewing and transitions to a more creamy texture.

E: Bubbles are interesting. Pretty creamy.
E2: Kind of chalky, but has nice creaminess.
J: Smooth and creamy.

Aftertaste - 4.3

The aftertaste is similar to strawberry yogurt. It tastes very sweet, milky, and dairy sour with a light strawberry flavor.

E: Plastic strawberry.
E2: Lingering sweetness is kind of intense.
J: All strawberry. Is there even chocolate?!

Overall - 5.3

Overall, the Aero Strawberry bar was quite disappointing. The bar had a dominant sour dairy flavor rather than tasting like a balanced pairing between chocolate and strawberry. The Aero Strawberry bar would have greatly benefited from a more authentic strawberry flavor and darker chocolate.

E: Not a fan.
E2: Not a fan.

Aero Caramel

Place purchased: Walmart in Canada

Number of reviewers: 4

Appearance - 6.8

The Aero Caramel bar is divided into bubble-shaped pieces. The bar has a milk chocolate shell with caramel flavored and colored aerated white chocolate.

E: Kind of looks like styrofoam.

Flavor and Taste - 5.3

The chocolate bar is very sweet. There is a strong butterscotch flavor in addition to the milk chocolate.

C: Has artificial caramel.
E: Really artificial.
S: Tastes like butterscotch and maple.

Texture - 5.8

The Areo Caramel bar has the same texture as all Aero bars. If you bite into the bar, the center collapses and then has a normal milk chocolate texture as you chew. Though, if you let the chocolate melt on your tongue, it feels somewhat bubbly.

C: Light and fluffy, kind of weird to bite into because it collapses. Kind of dry and crumbly at first bite, then becomes creamy.
E: Super crumbly - not desirable for me in a chocolate bar.
S: Kind of waxy - not airy.

Aftertaste - 5.8

The aftertaste is still incredibly sweet and tastes even more like butterscotch.

C: Artificial caramel.
E: Not bad, but fake caramel lingers.

Overall - 5.9

Overall, the flavor of the Aero Caramel bar is a disappointment. The caramel flavor tastes more like an overly sweet butterscotch than actual caramel.

E: Not really a fan.
S: Kind of gross.

Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups

Place purchased: Dollar Tree

Number of reviewers: 4

Appearance - 7.0

There is no paper cup! No circle of chocolate stuck to the paper!

Flavor and Taste - 8.1

The peanut butter flavor is exactly the same as a normal Butterfinger. The cups are also saltier than most other peanut butter cups.

L: OMG. So good. Creamy, salty, buttery, crunchy. Deliciousness.
S: It was better than I thought it was going to be.

Texture - 7.9

The peanut butter is mostly creamy with some mixed in crispy "peanut toffee" pieces, which seem to be tiny chunks of the flaky center inside normal Butterfingers. The added peanut toffee pieces provide a new textural consistency that works very well in these peanut butter cups.

C: I like the little crunchy pieces of Butterfinger inside.
L: Melt in your mouth with fun crunchies.
S: I liked that it still had the crunch Butterfinger pieces in it.

Aftertaste - 6.9

There is a slight peanut butter aftertaste that quickly dissipates.

L: Not bad, but nothing special. If only the taste could last forever.
S: Not much of an aftertaste, but I don't mind that.

Overall - 7.8

Overall, I think this is a great product and is definitely worth trying. Butterfinger peanut butter cups are a fantastic combination of sweet & salty and smooth & crunchy.
